The French and British Caribbean

Antigua, Saint Lucia and Guadeloupe

This trip incorporates both islands to the south of Antigua that we cover. By flying out from Antigua to Saint Lucia and back via Guadeloupe it eliminates the need for separate return flights and gives you more time hiking on the islands. You will see a fully French influenced island in Guadeloupe compared to a fully British one in Antigua with Saint Lucia being a heady mixture of the two. In total this itinerary last twelve nights and thirteen days with three nights each in Guadeloupe and Saint Lucia, bookended by three nights in Antigua at the start and finish of your trip.

Day 1

Soon after your international flight lands at Antigua’s new international airport terminal you will be met in arrivals by your Hike Caribbean representative and whisked away for your first night at the luxury Sugar Ridge Resort. Why not take a dip into one of our pools, then eat up in Carmichael’s restaurant watching the sunset across Montserrat and the Caribbean Sea?

Day 2

Take some time to unwind from your long flight and enjoy all Sugar Ridge has to offer. Exercise is a great cure for jet-lag, so you can work out in our multi-purpose gym or take one of our daily yoga classes. Alternatively, relax with a treatment in our Aveda Spa or take our complimentary shuttle to the beach.

Day 3

The first hike of your holiday! Your guide takes you out of Sugar Ridge soon after breakfast and through steep bush and forest where you will see signs of old plantation buildings and a variety of trees and plants which your guide will help you identify. Finally, towards the top you join a small tarmac road which leads up to the highest point on the island. You can peak through the trees and catch glimpses of the coastline and the interior of the island.

Day 4

Time to leave the luxury of Sugar Ridge for your early evening LIAT flight direct to St Lucia. The flight takes just over an hour and you will be afforded great views of the sunsetting over the islands as you take off. You then have a transfer of an hour or so down to the South of Saint Lucia and your night in luxury resort of Fondoux Plantation.

Day 5

Your first day hike. You leave early and travel for 45 minutes to reach the trail head for Mount Gimie and then it’s a strenuous five or six hours round trip to the summit through lush rainforest. On the way back, you can bath in a waterfall plunge pool or wait to take a plunge in the sea while the sun sets at Anse-Chatenet or of course do both!

Day 6

A shorter hike today up Gross Piton but a very steep one so we hope your legs aren’t too tired from the previous day. It will be well worth it with amazing views of the coast and the island and back to Fondoux Plantation where you can relax on your return.

Day 7

Your final day in Saint Lucia and you will be leaving mid-afternoon for your flight to Guadeloupe but in the meantime why not take the opportunity to visit the Sulphur Springs St Lucia’s famous ‘drive-in’ volcano or just relax in the pools and beaches of your resort.

Later in the day your Air Antilles flight to Guadeloupe will take less than two hours with a brief stop in-route in Martinique where you won’t need to disembark. Your transfer to Le Jardin Malanga will take less than an hour where you will have time to settle into your new home for three nights.

Day 8

Your first day in Guadeloupe and you will be hiking to the highest point in the whole of the Lesser Antilles. You will be picked up by your guide who will take you to the trial head for another strenuous day’s trekking and the opportunity to see volcanic features as well as beautiful views of the islands.

Day 9

Today you get the opportunity to visit the Chutes Carbet which are three interlinking falls descending a total of 245 meters. This will only take up the morning of the day and the walking is relatively light compared to previous days which leaves you time in the afternoon to relax in your hotel or to see more of the island.

Day 10

Your final day in Guadeloupe and you will be leaving on a short LIAT flight of thirty minutes to Antigua in the late afternoon. This again offers you some spare time to relax in the gardens of the hotel or admire the amazing view of the Les Santes islands from the infinity pool or to visit other parts of the island. On arrival in Antigua your friendly Sugar Ridge team will be there to whisk you back to the resort.

Day 11

A day to unwind a relax sore limbs after the hiking of the last few days. We recommend a treatment in the spa or some time at the beach!

Day 12

Your final full day in Antigua and in the afternoon, we take you on a guided hike of the historic English Harbour area, including a short boat ferry across the bay to Pigeon beach. From here you will hike up to Shirley Heights to see the sunset and maybe enjoy a well earned rum punch at the bar with its amazing views of the harbour and the coastline.

Day 13

Time to say goodbye to the Caribbean. We transfer you back to the international terminal for your flight home though we suggest a quick dip in the pool and soaking up the last drops of sunshine before you make your way!
