We have handpicked guides on each island who all share our passion for hiking. Each of them has their own story though and their own passions aside from hiking. Here’s a little bit more about them …
There is little he doesn’t know about the plants of Antigua and what each of them can be used for so make sure you just ask him. Vorn is certainly a character as well in fact he has won Antigua’s tourism personality of the year award in previous years! That said, Vorn can split opinion and has been describe in the past as ‘unmanageable’. Don’t worry, though, we have a great relationship with him and we know all our customers absolutely love his passion and enthusiasm for the island.
Scriber is a Montserrat institution and been described as a national treasure – think a tropical version of David Attenborough. And just like Mr Attenborough there is little Scriber doesn’t know about flora and fauna of his home island. Scriber’s passion is birds and he can mimic the call of several our feathered friends including the rare Montserrat Oriole which is unique to the island.
The name Scriber was bestowed upon him during his school days when classmates thought he had a knack for describing things and making the complicated very easy. He later used the name Describer as his moniker from 1977 to 1979 as a participant in local calypso shows. He never made it beyond the semi-finals but today he remains very involved in the art form as a judge and commentator. Over time as with most nicknames, it was shortened to Scriber.
Lynn’s great grandfather, Samuel Liburd, Nevis’ last Mountain Ranger, would take the young lad on Sunday afternoon walks educating him to the history and diverse nature found on the island. It was these initial experiences that bred into Lynn a love of the island, history & ecological importance inherited by each one of us. He now shares these on his hikes and has also passed this knowledge on to his son Kervin who also guides some of our hikes.
John (St Kitts)
Our man John in St Kitts balances taking hiking tours with running a guest house and a beach bar so he’s a busy man. Although he is happy to walk at a more sedate pace he likes to challenge himself to trial run some of the hikes he will take you on. John’s other passions are colonial history (his Pirates tour reflects this) as well as music and culture. Like we said, he’s a busy man!
Adams and Vision (St Lucia)
Together Adams and Vision describe themselves as Wildlife Ambassadors and this says everything about their passion for St Lucia’s verdant forest as well as their care and concern for the environment. Both Vision and Adams are certified park rangers and Adams is Chief Forest Office for the island. Much like Scriber in Montserrat, Vision and Adams have a passion for the birdlife of St Lucia whilst Vision, as Rastafarian, has extensive knowledge of the plants and vegetables of the island, since Rasta’s are vegetarian.
In Guadeloupe most of our hikes are arranged though Laurence and Eric and their team at Verte-Intense. As the name suggests, they like to get into the green forests in an intense way! As well as organising our hikes to La Soufriere and other hikes on the island, they can also organise canyoning trips on the rapids which descend the mountain ranges if you really like your adventures intense!
